The client's request was the construction of three houses in an inglenook plot of 150sqm, within the traditional settlement of Chora, on  Kimolos island. The aim of the study was to design the complex of housing in a distinct manner and in a way, so the final result is in harmony with the surrounding environment and to ensure better integration of the new complex in the delicate traditional urban web.
An important parameter of the overall design was to ensure the privacy of each house in relation to the outdoor space with the simultaneous possibility of "expansion" in the common courtyard.

The houses are adapted to the intense relief of the territory. The alternation of the materials plaster and stone contributes to the adaptation of the structures to the landscape. The open spaces around the swimming pools were studied with great concern.

The study involves four vacation homes with a shared swimming pool. The residences are situated on ground level and their  outdoor areas’ layout ensures protection from the northern winds.

On a narrow plot in the traditional village of Chora on Kimolos island, the construction of a cafeteria was requested, with extra space to be used as a warehouse.
The architect decided to design two different buildings so as to maintain a distinct separation of the different functions, and to obtain enough outdoor space for the customers of the cafeteria. At the same time, the orientation of the structures ensures a pleasant stay in the outdoor area during the summertime.
The result is the smooth integration of the buildings in the traditional urban web.

The area of this  one-room old house is 27.36 sqm. including the traditional structure of the oven.
The owner’s need to acquire a  habitable residence led to the present study.
The aim of the study is to maintain the imprint of the old building in the traditional urban web. For this reason, the structure of the oven is maintained as a special morphological element and an additional floor is constructed in retreat, thus to ensure a smooth visual transition from the lowest volume to the highest. The ground floor is formed into living room, dining room and kitchen. the bedroom is on the first floor which has access to a small terrace.

Configuration of Plaka square

Project: Configuration of Plaka square
Location: Milos, Plaka
Year: 2008


The demand of our client, the municipality of Milos island was the renovation of the small square at the entrance of the traditional village of Plaka. The square is a landmark of the village and residents’ gathering place. The improvement of the square’s image and consequently the improvement of the village’s appearance was a necessary intervention.The study aimed to create the appropriate conditions for a pleasant stay in the square. This was achieved by placing the seating area facing the view of the “Castle” and providing shade by planting trees. There was also provision for people with disabilities to access the square by creating a ramp.

Residence

Location: Pollonia, Milos

The main feature of the site is the unobstructed view of the sea and the cedars that grow therein, whose position was recorded and considered during the study so as not to be damaged.
The purpose of the study was  the gentle integration of the building’s different blocks  on the sensitive landscape and the bioclimatic design of the house.
Thus, the building was designed in such a way as to be  "absorbed" by nature (part of the building is underground to reduce the visible volume) and has an orientation suitable to ensure shading throughout the daytime during the summer.
At the lower level the interior is connected to the semi-outdoor space through a three-door opening, a morphological loan from the buildings of the nearby prehistoric settlement of Phylakopi.

The inglenook shape of this plot, the strong inclination of the terrain and the owner’s desire to have a house overlooking the bay, were the main  factors that resulted to the enclosed spaces of this house to be developed on the trace of a quadrant, creating at the same time outdoor spaces protected from the wind and the sun.

Location: Gerakas, Attica
Year: 2002


The study of a two-floor house In a plot of 203,40  sqm was acquired. In order to meet the owners’ increased demands the house had to be studied in great detail so as to ensure quality and functionality in the indoor spaces. The result was a two-floor residence of approximately 162 sqm with three bedrooms and two living rooms with open spaces which are the extension of the indoor functions.
